John Lyras is an Australian Professional Golfer, based in Sydney. Currently he is applying his trade on the PGA Tour of Australasia. He has spent 3 years on Asian Tour and 6 months injury interrupted on Korn Ferry in 2024.
A passionate and skilled player, steadily climbing the ranks of the Australian Tour finishing 87th 2020-21, 26th 2021-22 and 5th in the 2022-23 season. He averaged an impressive 68.75 throughout that season, had the highest birdie average and the most rounds sub 65 on the tour - having played only 7 of 16 events. Following this, John saw runner up finishes at the 2023 NZ Open and the National Classic where he earned the right to compete at PGA Tour Final Stage Q School. Finishing in a tie for 54th, earning a conditional category on the Korn Ferry Tour and status on the PGA Tour Americas.
After this promising start to the 2023 season, John suffered a severe wrist injury that forced him out of the game for 18 months.
Following successful surgery in late 2024, he regained status on the PGA Tour of Australia thanks to 3 strong showings in the last few events of the 2025-26 season and gaining a tour card through Final Stage of Q School at the beginning of April.
To start the official 26-27 season, John has played 8x pro ams in WA and North QLD. He has shot 2 rounds of -10, one of them being a course record at Bunbury Golf Club and the other converting to a win at the Pioneer Valley Pro Am. He is looking to parlait this good form into a successful season starting at the WA PGA in October while going for his DPWT card in Europe through various stages of Q School come the end of the year.
On returning from injury, John has been particularly outspoken about mental health. In such a high stakes and individual sport, he has hopes to create change around the conversation and struggle many players face at both amateur and professional levels.
He loves all sport, but in particular AFL, cricket, tennis and Formula One. If you bump into him, he’d love to have a yarn about all things sport. Go the Swans!
